Style Tags Explained: The Complete Guide (From Someone Who Ignored Them for 20 Hours)

I played this game for almost a full day before I understood what style tags actually did. Don't be me. Here's everything I learned about Majestic, Royal, Elegant, and the rest โ€” the hard way.

My embarrassing mistake (or: why tags matter)

I'm gonna be real with you โ€” for the first 20 hours of this game, I treated style tags like they were just flavor text. You know, those little labels on fabrics that say "Majestic" or "Cute" or whatever? I figured they were just descriptions. Decoration. Lore.

They are not decoration. They are the ENTIRE GAME.

Here's what happened: I was stuck on Masquerade Ball, getting 4 stars over and over. I was using the most expensive fabrics I had, maxing out quality, sewing perfectly โ€” and I still couldn't hit 5 stars. I was losing my mind. I spent like $8,000 on failed attempts.

Then I actually READ the commission requirements. Right there, plain as day: "Required tags: Majestic, Royal, Elegant." And I looked at my fabric combo. None of my fabrics had the Majestic tag. Not one.

I had been spending thousands of gold on fabrics that didn't have the tags the commission needed. No wonder I was getting 4 stars. The quality was there, but the tag coverage was zero.

The moment I swapped in a Velvet Black (Majestic + Royal), I got 5 stars instantly. Same quality. Same sewing. The ONLY difference was the tags.

Yeah. I felt stupid. But you live and learn, right? And now I'm going to teach you everything I learned about the tag system so you don't have to waste $8,000 like I did.

The 7 style tags, ranked by rarity

There are 7 style tags in the game. Each fabric has 1-2 tags, and each commission requires specific tags to hit 5 stars. Here they are, from rarest to most common:

๐Ÿท๏ธ Style Tag Rarity Ranking
๐Ÿ‘‘ Majestic โ€” Only 3 fabrics have this tag
RAREST
๐Ÿ’Ž Royal โ€” 5 fabrics have this tag
VERY RARE
๐ŸŽฉ Formal โ€” 7 fabrics have this tag
RARE
โœจ Elaborate โ€” 8 fabrics have this tag
UNCOMMON
๐ŸŒน Romantic โ€” 10 fabrics have this tag
UNCOMMON
๐Ÿ‘— Elegant โ€” 12 fabrics have this tag
COMMON
๐ŸŽ€ Cute โ€” 14 fabrics have this tag
MOST COMMON

Why does rarity matter? Because if a commission requires a Majestic tag, you NEED one of those 3 fabrics. Period. You can't substitute with a Cute tag and hope it works. The tag system is strict โ€” matching the required tags is non-negotiable for 5 stars.

Trust me, I tried. I spent an entire evening trying to brute-force Masquerade Ball with high-quality fabrics that didn't have Majestic. It doesn't work. Quality matters, but tags matter more.

Which fabrics give which tags (my personal cheat sheet)

OK here's the good stuff. I spent way too long cataloging every fabric and its tags, so you don't have to. This is the cheat sheet I keep next to my keyboard when I play:

๐Ÿ‘‘ Majestic fabrics (only 3 in the whole game)

  • Velvet Black ($720, 92 quality) โ€” Also gives Royal. The cheapest Majestic fabric by a mile. My MVP.
  • Brocade Red ($850, 94 quality) โ€” Also gives Royal. Highest quality Majestic fabric. Expensive but worth it.
  • Silk Gold ($680, 88 quality) โ€” Also gives Elegant. The golden child of royal commissions.

๐Ÿ’Ž Royal fabrics

  • Velvet Black, Brocade Red (both also Majestic)
  • Velvet Burgundy ($700, 91 quality) โ€” Royal + Elegant. Great for evening wear.
  • Satin Royal ($580, 86 quality) โ€” Royal + Formal. Cheaper alternative.
  • Velvet Navy ($650, 89 quality) โ€” Royal + Formal. My go-to for formal commissions.

๐ŸŽฉ Formal fabrics

  • Satin Royal, Velvet Navy (both also Royal)
  • Lace Cream ($420, 82 quality) โ€” Formal + Elegant. My most-used fabric, period.
  • Lace White ($440, 83 quality) โ€” Formal + Elegant. Slightly higher quality version.
  • Silk White ($550, 85 quality) โ€” Formal + Elegant. For when you need both tags in one fabric.
  • Satin Blue ($480, 84 quality) โ€” Formal + Elegant. Has a nice silver sheen too.
  • Tulle Ivory ($380, 78 quality) โ€” Formal + Elaborate. Cheapest Formal fabric.

โœจ Elaborate fabrics

  • Tulle Ivory (also Formal)
  • Chiffon Rose ($350, 76 quality) โ€” Elaborate + Romantic. Great accent fabric.
  • Brocade Purple ($520, 83 quality) โ€” Elaborate + Elegant. Underrated.
  • Embroidered Cotton ($280, 72 quality) โ€” Elaborate + Cute. Budget option.

๐ŸŒน Romantic fabrics

  • Chiffon Rose (also Elaborate)
  • Lace Pink ($320, 75 quality) โ€” Romantic + Cute. For soft, feminine commissions.
  • Chiffon Lavender ($360, 78 quality) โ€” Romantic + Elegant. Nice for tea party vibes.
  • Silk Rose ($500, 82 quality) โ€” Romantic + Elegant. Upgrade from Chiffon Rose.

๐Ÿ‘— Elegant fabrics

  • Silk Gold, Lace Cream, Lace White, Silk White, Satin Blue, Brocade Purple, Chiffon Lavender, Silk Rose โ€” all give Elegant too
  • Linen Beige ($180, 65 quality) โ€” Elegant + Casual. Cheapest Elegant fabric. Great for budget runs.

๐ŸŽ€ Cute fabrics (most common)

  • Cotton Pink ($120, 55 quality) โ€” Cute + Casual. The beginner's best friend.
  • Cotton Blue ($120, 55 quality) โ€” Cute + Casual.
  • Embroidered Cotton, Lace Pink, Chiffon Rose โ€” all give Cute

Notice something? The rarer the tag, the more expensive the fabric. Majestic fabrics cost $680-$850. Cute fabrics cost $120-$280. This is why hard commissions are so expensive โ€” they require rare tags, and rare-tag fabrics are pricey.

How to stack tags for 5 stars

Here's the thing that took me embarrassingly long to figure out: you don't need every fabric to match every required tag. You just need the TAGS covered across your whole design. One fabric with Majestic is enough โ€” you don't need all four slots to have it.

Let me give you an example. Say a commission requires: Majestic + Royal + Elegant + Formal (I'm looking at you, Midnight Gala).

Here's how I used to approach it (WRONG):

My old approach โŒ โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜† 4 stars

Fabrics: Silk Gold + Silk White + Lace Cream + Lace White

Result: Covered Elegant and Formal. But NO Majestic and NO Royal. Quality was 85. Got 4 stars because I was missing 2 of the 4 required tags.

And here's how I approach it now (RIGHT):

My current approach โœ… โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… 5 STARS

Fabrics: Velvet Black (Majestic+Royal) + Silk Gold (Elegant) + Lace Cream (Formal+Elegant) + Tulle Ivory (Formal+Elaborate)

Result: All 4 required tags covered. Quality averaged 87. Got 5 stars easily. Same quality as before, but the tag coverage made the difference.

The magic formula is: cover every required tag first, THEN optimize for quality. Not the other way around. I had it backwards for 20 hours. Don't be like me.

Reading commission tag requirements

Every commission shows its required tags right there in the description. I ignored them for 20 hours. 20 HOURS. I'm still mad at myself.

Here's how to read them:

  • "Required tags" means you MUST have these tags covered. Missing even one = no 5 stars. Non-negotiable.
  • "Preferred tags" means these boost your score but aren't mandatory. Nice to have.
  • "Color requirements" are separate from tags. You need both the right tags AND the right colors.

Pro tip that took me forever to figure out: if you open your fabric inventory during commission prep, you can hover over each fabric to see its tags. I didn't realize this for the first 10 hours. I was just... guessing. Based on the fabric name. "Velvet Black? Probably... dark? I dunno." Yeah, not my brightest moment.

My go-to tag combos for every situation

After 35 hours of commissions, I've basically memorized which fabric combos cover which tags. Here are my bread-and-butter setups:

The "I need everything" combo (Majestic + Royal + Elegant + Formal)

Use: Velvet Black + Brocade Red + Lace Cream + Silk Gold

This is my nuclear option. Covers all 4 hard tags in one combo. Yes it costs like $3,000. Yes I've used it on almost every late-game commission. Worth every gold piece. I call it "The Royal Treatment."

The "budget formal" combo (Elegant + Formal)

Use: Linen Beige + Tulle Ivory

Total cost: $560. Covers Elegant (from linen) and Formal (from tulle). Quality is low (~72) but for early-game formal commissions, it's enough to scrape by. I used this combo constantly before I unlocked the good stuff.

The "romantic garden party" combo (Romantic + Cute + Elegant)

Use: Chiffon Rose + Cotton Pink + Linen Beige

Costs about $650 total. Hits all three tags, decent quality (~73). Perfect for Summer Breeze, Garden Party Gown, and Vintage Tea Dress. My most-used early-game combo by far.

The "I'm broke but I need Majestic" combo (Majestic + Royal + Cute)

Use: Velvet Black + Cotton Pink

Yeah, I know. Black velvet + pink cotton sounds unhinged. I was desperate, okay? But it actually works for commissions that just need the Majestic tag without high quality requirements. The cotton brings the quality average down, but if the commission only needs 75 quality, you're fine. Total cost: $840. Way cheaper than the full Royal Treatment.

I discovered this combo by accident when I ran out of gold during a Masquerade Ball attempt. I was so surprised it worked that I literally laughed out loud. My cat was not amused.

Mistakes I made so you don't have to

โŒ Ignoring tags entirely

20 hours. TWENTY HOURS of ignoring the tag system. Don't be me. Read the tags. Match the tags. Love the tags.

โŒ Using expensive fabrics without the right tags

I spent $8,000 on Silk Gold and Silk White for Masquerade Ball before realizing neither has the Majestic tag. Price โ‰  tag coverage. Always check tags before spending gold.

โŒ Stacking the same tag

I once put four Elegant fabrics in one commission. Guess what? The Elegant tag only counts once. Four Elegant fabrics = same as one Elegant fabric for tag purposes. I felt so dumb.

โŒ Forgetting about color requirements

Tags and colors are SEPARATE requirements. You can have all the right tags and still fail because your color distribution is wrong. Always double-check both.

Final thoughts

The style tag system is honestly the most important mechanic in this game, and the game does a terrible job of explaining it. I learned it through trial and error and a lot of wasted gold, and I hope this guide saves you from the same fate.

The short version: match your tags first, then worry about quality. A $500 fabric with the right tag will always beat a $900 fabric with the wrong tag. Every single time.

If you're still confused about which fabrics to use for a specific commission, plug your requirements into our fabric calculator โ€” it'll tell you exactly which combos cover your needed tags. I wish I'd built that thing 20 hours earlier.

Now go forth and tag-match like a pro. Your gold reserves will thank you. ๐Ÿท๏ธโœจ
