Every Fabric in Dressmaker, Ranked From Worst to Best

I've spent way too many hours playing this game and testing every fabric. Here's my completely subjective ranking โ€” from "why does this even exist" to "I use this in every commission."

Let me preface this by saying: every fabric has its use case. Even the "worst" one on this list has a time and place. But if I had to pick which fabrics to bring to a desert island (a tailor desert island?), these would be my rankings.

My ranking is based on three things: how often I use it, how much of a difference it makes when I do use it, and how hard it is to replace with something cheaper. Your mileage may vary, and that's okay โ€” the game is designed so multiple playstyles work.

S TIER
Game-changing. Always bring these.

๐Ÿฅ‡ Silk White

Okay, this is basically the best fabric in the game. There, I said it. Silk White does everything well โ€” great quality, great style, elegant + formal + luxury tags, works in so many commissions.

I use Silk White in probably 70% of my high-end commissions. It's the workhorse fabric that you can always rely on. If you can only afford one luxury fabric, make it this one. The only downside is the price โ€” 600 coins ain't cheap โ€” but it's worth every penny.

๐Ÿฅˆ Velvet Black

If Silk White is the best all-around fabric, Velvet Black is the best dramatic fabric. That quality stat (97!) is absolutely nuts, and dramatic + formal + luxury tags make it perfect for all the gala and masquerade commissions.

Yeah, it's expensive (950 coins โ€” yikes), but for 4-5 star commissions? Worth it. I always pre-buy one bolt of Velvet Black before taking on Midnight Gala or Masquerade Ball. It's that essential.

๐Ÿฅ‰ Lace Cream

Lace Cream is the most versatile mid-tier fabric in the game. Elegant + romantic + vintage tags cover so many requirements, and at 360 coins, it's surprisingly affordable.

I use Lace Cream as my "filler" fabric for almost every romantic or elegant commission. It pairs beautifully with silk, adds volume without breaking the bank, and the quality is solid (95!). Underrated AF.

A TIER
Excellent. Use these often.

Silk Gold

The most legendary fabric in the game โ€” literally, it's legendary rarity. Silk Gold has the highest style stat (98!) and luxury + dramatic + royal tags. It's the definition of "go big or go home."

Why isn't it S tier? Two reasons: it's 900 coins (ouch), and you can't get it until late in the game (after Golden Jubilee). But once you have it? Oh man. It turns good commissions into perfect ones. Crowning Glory is basically impossible without it.

Satin Blue

Satin Blue is my go-to "budget luxury" fabric. At 480 coins, it's not cheap, but it's way more affordable than silk or velvet. And it delivers โ€” elegant + formal tags, 88 quality, 85 style.

I use Satin Blue when I need a formal fabric but can't afford velvet. It's the bridge between mid-tier and high-end, and it punches way above its weight. Great for 3-4 star commissions where you want quality but need to watch the budget.

Brocade Red

The best red fabric by a mile. Brocade Red has dramatic + formal + luxury tags (yes, all three!) and a quality stat of 90. For Masquerade Ball and other red/black commissions, this is your main fabric.

At 520 coins, it's not the cheapest, but for what it delivers? Worth it. I always buy Brocade Red the moment I unlock it โ€” it's just too useful to pass up.

B TIER
Good. Use these when you need them.

Lace White

Solid all-white option. Great for wedding commissions. A bit plain but reliable.

Chiffon Rose

Romantic + cute + flowy. Perfect for garden party and summer dresses. Not the highest quality though.

Linen Beige

Best budget fabric by far. Casual + natural + breathable, 78 quality for only 220 coins. Great for early game.

Tulle Ivory

Best fabric for adding volume and romance on a budget. Low quality (70) but you don't use it for quality โ€” you use it for the poof.

C TIER
Fine. Situational use only.

Cotton Pink

The starter fabric. Gets you through the first few commissions, but you'll outgrow it quickly. 180 coins though โ€” can't beat the price.

Denim Indigo

Casual + durable. Very specific use case โ€” I think I used it once? Maybe twice? Cool that it exists, though.

๐Ÿค” But Wait, Does Ranking Even Matter?

Okay, let me be real with you โ€” this ranking is just my opinion based on how I play. The truth is, every fabric is useful in the right situation. The "worst" fabric on this list (Denim Indigo) is still the best choice for casual everyday commissions.

What matters more than individual fabric quality is how you combine them. A well-thought-out combination of B-tier fabrics will beat a random pile of S-tier fabrics every single time.
